2017 has already been such a busy year for me artistically. In January I was at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, meeting other painters from all over Australia and veering off in a completely new direction with my painting. For years I've been sitting on the fence with abstract expressionism, and thanks to my time there and teacher Roger Crawford, I finally jumped off the ledge and into the expressionist pool. You can see some of this in my latest work on this page. I've recently framed up some of the work I did there, which are oils on canvas. I'm thrilled with them. There are others being framed up now in groups of three, four and six.

Another biggie has been the building of my studio, which is pictured above. I got some old windows and doors from Lawrie Voutier's shop ( Lawrie has been in the news himself recently as the demolition man) and put them into our garage with views over the garden; I had a beautiful hardwood bench made to work on, and a heater because hey, it's cold here in country Victoria! ( Thanks to the talented Steve Pickles and Mick Narik ) who are pictured here. If you're interested in something like this for your studio you can email me at and I'll contact them, or they're in the phone book.

I decided to open up the studio as a creative workshop space for teaching as well as so many people thought it was such a beautiful space. I ran four week 'Keys to your Creativity Workshops' in the studio in February and they were a great success. Everyone found them really useful so I'm running another four weeks in June and then another one later in the year.

Here's what some of the participants said about the Keys Workshops:- "First of all, huge thanks to you, Robyn, for running the 'Keys to your Creativity Workshops'. I can only truly speak for myself, but I believe, from everyone's comments Tuesday, that you have, over four short weeks, cleverly provided us with the Keys with which we have unlocked a personal space we only rarely allowed ourselves to enter".

"I just wanted to say thank you for a lovely finale to our creative journey. What a beautiful way to finish up the evening in a magical fairy land."

"Thanks to you all for being brave enough to take a leap with me in doing these workshops, choosing to make time to put our creativity and selves ahead of other stuff ( for me this was a big one) and creating a safe but open space in which to explore these things. I really appreciated it."

If you're interested in coming along to the 'Keys to your Creativity workshops' in my studio later in the year you can email me or contact me on FB.

And on the studio again, I'm holding open studios with other artists here through the year. The first one will be on Sunday May 14th from 10.30am - 4pm. I'll share some more news, dates and times about these on FB, on my page, Robyn Emerson Creates. I'll look forward to meeting many of you at my Open Studio on one of the Sundays through 2017. See you here!
